Required Moment Sets: Enhanced Controllability Analysis for Nonlinear Aircraft Models

Attainable moment sets (AMS) are a powerful method to assess aircraft controllability. However, as attainable only take into account the achievable set of control effectors, they do not required fulfill mission requirements. This paper proposes calculate corresponding (RMS) which defines moments sufficient for fulfilling controllability requirements in flight envelope. The applies approach nonlinear simulation model an electric vertical off vehicle (eVTOL) transition drone hover. By comparing AMS model, margins derived and used considered aircraft. results indicate that combined evaluation directly identifies critical channels margins, is advantageous when compared pure AMS-based evaluation. proposed enables execution simulation-based assessments design development. In early stages design, can support sizing, positioning tilting effectors (e.g., propulsive elements) fit actual force specific system.
